If I Were a Cat

Monday afternoons are dedicated to arts and crafts, which are always a wonderful opportunity for self-expression and creativity.

Our theme for art this week was “If I Were a Cat.” The children began by imagining themselves as cats. What would they look like? What color would they be?

We looked at example images together and talked about them. What colors could we see? What patterns were used? This helped us practice observation skills and build our vocabulary.

Next, the children shared their own ideas about what their “cat self” would look like. This encouraged them to express their opinions and think creatively about their choices.

Before painting, we reviewed how to use watercolor paints carefully. Watercolor can be wonderfully messy, so the children had to follow directions closely to control the amount of water and paint they used. Painting activities like this help develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor control.

As the children worked, they discovered how watercolors can blend together in beautiful, unexpected ways.

Although the paint can be tricky to control, they embraced the process and enjoyed watching their unique cat creations come to life.
