Our K1s are exploring shapes as part of our Art theme for September! We have been using art to develop our creativity and fine motor skills while we learn the shapes.

For today’s project, each child first chose the color of their square and circle. They then combined the two shapes to create the base of their artwork. With everyone making their own color combinations, each piece was already unique!

Then came the really fun part: sequins!

The K1s were given a colourful selection of tiny shiny circles, stars, and even little hearts. Since we had a limited supply of each color and shape, the children had to share with one another and practice politely asking for the specific sequins they wanted. It was a great opportunity to work on sharing, communication, and kindness.

The children then used glue sticks and their fingers to carefully place the tiny sequins around the edge of their circle, creating a sparkling border. This was excellent practice for their fine motor control, as they had to pick up each tiny sequin and carefully position it exactly where they wanted it.

Of course, the best part was that there was so many different colours and shapes to choose from! The K1s were free to express their own creativity. Some children filled their borders with circles, others chose lots of shiny stars, while some created colourful combinations.

The finished artwork is simple, colorful, and eye-catching. And it certainly seems like our artists enjoyed themselves. ✨
