We had a very fun and cultural Fun Fun Friday!
Alex began by explaining why mochi rice is special and meaningful to the children. Everyone listened closely as he shared how mochi is traditionally made and why it is an important part of Japanese culture. The children were excited to see how the rice would turn into mochi!
Next, we were thrilled to welcome real sumo wrestlers to the school! The children’s eyes lit up as they met them up close and learned more about their strength and training. It was a very special moment that made the experience feel extra memorable.
The sumo wrestlers then helped us pound the mochi together. The children took turns watching and participating, cheering as the rice was pounded again and again. Everyone was amazed by how the sticky rice slowly changed shape!
After the mochi was finished, the children gave the sumo wrestlers letters they had prepared. The wrestlers listened kindly and smiled as they received each message. It was a sweet way to say thank you before they left.
Once everything was ready, we all sat down to eat the mochi together. The children happily tasted what they had helped make and talked about the experience. Sharing the mochi made the day feel complete and joyful!
It was a wonderful cultural experience filled with learning, teamwork, and excitement. The children had so much fun and created memories they will not forget!
