One of the most important things to develop in young children is self-confidence. With a strong foundation, they will be able to grow into capable and confident individuals.
This week, our students enhanced their understanding of who they are and expressed how they see themselves with a self-portrait activity.
Each child was given a decorative frame to personalize. Some chose colored pencils while others used bright markers. They were allowed to choose their own style and make their own creative choices.
Our older students took on an extra challenge by carefully cutting out their own frames. The intricate designs required patience and control, making it a great activity for developing fine motor skills and dexterity. Once completed, the frames were pasted onto backing paper, ready for the next step.
Using mirrors as a reference, the students practiced drawing their own self-portraits. It was wonderful seeing the concentration and focus.
Our younger students also explored self-expression in their own way. Instead of drawing, they were given printed photos of themselves, which they decorated using colorful paint splatter. The results were bright, playful, and full of personality.
This activity was a wonderful way for students of all ages to express themselves while building confidence. Each piece was unique, just like the children who made them, and we are so proud of the effort and they showed.
