Setsubun

Yesterday it was Setsubun! An oni came to our class on Friday morning.

Usually on Setsubun we throw roasted soybeans to drive the oni away but we spent some of the morning making paper ammunition to throw at him. We chanted “Good luck in, Bad luck out!” and threw hundreds of paper balls. It went great!

In the afternoon we talked more about Setsubun and things we do on Setsubun like eating thick rolled sushi which is known as Ehomaki.

Then we made oni masks and pants to become ourselves oni.

We hope it brings everyone good fortune and good luck for the New Year.
