We had a great start to the year 2025, and all the children were ready for a fresh beginning.
To celebrate the start of the new year, the students took a trip to a local shrine. The walk was short, but the children were excited to step into the peaceful shrine grounds.
After a quick explanation, they walked up to the offering box, tossed in a coin, and clapped their hands to make their wishes for the new year.
After returning from the shrine, it was time for a fun and traditional New Year’s activity—pounding mochi!
The children gathered around a big wooden mortar, and two by two, they took turns using heavy mallets to pound the sticky rice. Everyone cheered as the rice slowly turned into smooth, stretchy mochi.
Lunchtime was extra special because the students got to eat the mochi they had made! The children took big bites and smiled at the chewy, delicious texture. It was a wonderful way to welcome the new year together!
With happy smiles and full stomachs, the students enjoyed their first special event of the year.
